Building Capacity, Building Futures: How Robin Hood and Deloitte are Strengthening NYC Nonprofits

Watch how a partnership built on purpose is helping power poverty-fighting nonprofits across New York City.

In New York City, fighting poverty isn’t just about funding programs—it’s about fortifying the organizations behind them. That’s where capacity building comes in. From strategic planning and communications to workforce development and tech solutions, Robin Hood’s Management Acceleration team is dedicated to strengthening the infrastructure of the 285 nonprofits we support. And we can’t do it alone.

Enter Monitor Institute by Deloitte.

One of Robin Hood’s largest and longest-standing pro bono collaborators, Deloitte has helped provide over $5 million in strategic consulting and skills-based support to our grantees—support they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. And it’s not just dollars and deliverables—it’s decades of commitment, collaboration, and care.

“Deloitte and Robin Hood have been working together in different capacities for over twenty years,” said Kwasi Mitchell, Deloitte US Managing Principal – Growth & Purpose and Deloitte Global Chief Sustainability Officer.

“We share a deep commitment to NYC, so we formalized this relationship starting in 2020.”

Since then, the partnership has grown into a three-pronged collaboration:

  • Financial Commitment: $1M annually to Robin Hood’s mission
  • Pro Bono Strategy Work: Through Deloitte Consulting LLP’s Service Corps
  • Nonprofit Capacity Building: Direct support to Robin Hood grantees in branding, tech, workforce planning, and more

From closing COVID-19 vaccine gaps in communities of color to tackling Gen Z recruitment in the nonprofit workforce, Deloitte has embedded with our grantees to co-create responsive, forward-looking solutions. Most recently, the Monitor Institute by Deloitte launched a peer learning cohort with several Robin Hood workforce development grantees to better understand and retain the next generation of talent.

“Robin Hood’s Management Acceleration team helps strengthen many of the most effective poverty-fighting organizations in NYC,” said Allan Ludgate, Managing Director at the Monitor Institute by Deloitte.

“They identify where our support can have the greatest impact.”

One of those organizations was CASES, which provides services to help individuals impacted by the criminal legal system.

“Branding and messaging had been on our mind for some time but we just did not have the capital to pursue this project,” said Loyal Miles, Chief Officer of Mission Advancement at CASES. “The Deloitte team was amazing. They did an enormous amount of work in a succinct time frame. The revised brand will likely lead to increased awareness, support, donations, and, ultimately, more individuals receiving critical support.”

Through Deloitte Service Corps, more than 40 Deloitte practitioners donate over 7,500 hours of pro bono work annually to Robin Hood grantees. That’s not just a numbers game—it’s a leadership development pipeline and a social impact engine.

“The work that has come out of these engagements has been incredible,” said Ludgate. “It’s not just rewarding—it’s transformative, both for the nonprofits and our own teams.”

At Robin Hood, we believe nonprofits can’t fight poverty without the capital to build their capacity. And it takes more than funding. It takes partnerships built on purpose. Deloitte’s collaboration with Robin Hood is helping to make New York’s human and social service sector more responsive, efficient, and sustainable.
