Startups receive their initial investment during the Founder Fellowship or Catalyst, often at the earliest stages of company formation and validation.

After completing our program, ventures begin raising their next round of capital from outside investors including angels, VCs, and foundations.

Typically if a venture secures commitments from professional investors and meets our Foundation’s charitable purpose, we may participate in the same round (i.e., on the same terms) to help close the round and sustain momentum.

Founders who have participated in BRL’s Fellowship or Catalyst programs and are building on work that emerged from those programs, or launching a new company that extends prior work in furtherance of Robin Hood’s charitable purpose.
